Georgia Governor waives penalties for on-road dyed diesel use
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has amended a state of emergency order to waive penalties for the on-road use of dyed diesel, a fuel typically reserved for off-road machinery. This measure aims to provide relief to farmers and truckers facing high fuel costs. The decision follows a federal move by President Donald Trump to authorize highway use of dyed diesel and defer federal excise taxes to combat record-high diesel prices.
In addition to the diesel penalty waiver, Kemp has extended the state of emergency through November 5. This extension includes the ongoing suspension of the state motor fuel tax and the removal of state weight limits on commercial vehicles. Following the initial suspension of the fuel tax, Georgia has seen a decrease in average gas prices by approximately 33 cents and diesel by more than 42 cents per gallon.
