Georgia heat advisory and severe storms disrupt Atlanta travel plans

A Hazardous Weather Outlook was issued for north and central Georgia, including a heat advisory for east‑central counties with heat‑index values expected to reach 106 °F. The outlook warned of numerous thunderstorms capable of producing strong to severe winds, large hail, frequent lightning and localized flash flooding.

On Saturday, heavy downpours and damaging winds up to 60 mph moved across the region. The Federal Aviation Administration imposed a ground stop at Hartsfield‑Jackson Atlanta International Airport until 4:30 p.m., leading to flight delays and cancellations. The Atlanta FIFA Fan Festival was also postponed due to lightning concerns.

Meteorologists expect the wet pattern to linger through the week, with elevated rain chances of 60‑70 % on Sunday and Monday before tapering later in the week.
