Georgia heat advisory and severe storms trigger warnings across dozens of counties

A Heat Advisory was issued for north and central Georgia on July 1, with heat index values expected to reach as high as 107 °F. The National Weather Service also released a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the same area.

Scattered to isolated thunderstorms moved across northwest Georgia in the afternoon and evening, producing gusty winds up to 60 mph, frequent lightning, small hail and locally heavy rain. Several counties received flash‑flood warnings, and severe thunderstorm watches were active for Fulton, Cobb, Douglas, Union, Towns, Fannin and other jurisdictions.

The combined heat and storm threat affected a large portion of the state, prompting shelter warnings and heightened caution for residents in counties ranging from Fulton and DeKalb to the more rural areas of Fannin and Rabun.
