Gercüş pistachio harvest begins in Batman with high market prices

The pistachio harvest has commenced in the Gercüş district of Batman, Turkey. Supported by government initiatives providing saplings and agricultural aid, pistachio cultivation has become an increasingly widespread source of income for local farmers.

While weather conditions and rainfall have negatively impacted pollination, leading to a lower yield this year, market prices remain high. Pistachios are currently trading between 700 and 800 Turkish Lira per kilogram, providing economic satisfaction to producers despite the reduced volume.

Local production has been further modernized through new processing facilities in the district. These facilities utilize advanced machinery to separate shells and debris, a process that farmers note used to be extremely labor-intensive and time-consuming when done manually. Producer Fatih Ekin noted that modern machines can now complete the cleaning process in approximately five minutes.
