Turkish pistachio harvest and market trends

Overview

The Turkish pistachio market continues to undergo seasonal transitions and regional shifts. In the Araban district of Gaziantep, the harvest has officially commenced, marked by promotional programs led by the Araban Chamber of Agriculture and Garlic Producers Union. Local officials, including District Governor Ferhat Salih Ceylan, are working to increase global interest in the region’s orchards, which cover approximately 120,000 decares and include trees estimated to be between 500 and 600 years old.

In the Gercüş district of Batman, the harvest has also begun. Although rainfall and weather conditions have negatively impacted pollination and resulted in lower yields, market prices in this region remain high, with pistachios trading between 700 and 800 TL per kilogram. This has provided economic satisfaction to producers despite the reduced volume.

Technological advancements are also reshaping local production. In Gercüş, new processing facilities utilizing advanced machinery have modernized the cleaning process. Producer Fatih Ekin noted that modern machines can now complete the shell and debris separation in approximately five minutes, a task that was previously extremely labor-intensive when performed manually.
