Geriatric care and dementia awareness initiatives held in Germany

Various regional initiatives in Germany are highlighting geriatric care and dementia awareness through educational visits and community engagement.

In Gifhorn, students from class HBFPA 1.1 conducted field visits to several facilities to gain practical insights into elderly care. Their itinerary included the geriatric ward at Helios Krankenhaus Gifhorn, where they observed holistic treatment and mobility training. They also visited Haus Lebensglück in Gamsen, which features an intergenerational concept combining daycare and kindergarten, and the Seniorenzentrum am Wasserturm to study daily operations in senior residences.

In Gilching, the 7th Bavarian Dementia Week featured activities designed to foster connection and memory. Events included musical sessions at the Rotkreuzhaus to stimulate memories through song, and a dementia-sensitive guided tour at the SchichtWerk Museum. The museum tour, led by a trained dementia partner, focused on relaxed exploration and personal recollections rather than dense information.
