Gerik fatal crash kills four people on East-West Highway

Four people, including a young girl, were killed in a multi-vehicle collision on the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding in Gerik, Perak. The accident involved a Perodua Axia, a Proton Persona, and a Hino lorry.

Preliminary investigations by Perak police suggest the Perodua Axia, driven by a 19-year-old, lost control and entered the opposite lane. The vehicle struck the rear of a Proton Persona before crashing into the front of a lorry, causing the Axia to become wedged underneath the lorry and be dragged for approximately three to seven metres.

The deceased have been identified as Al Zubair Deraman, 31, Tuan Shazrin Tuan Mud, 40, Nik Mohamad Hafiz Daniel Nik Hairey, 19, and a young girl. A 9-year-old boy, Mohammad Shiraz Hammani Abdul Fattah, sustained serious injuries and was treated at Hospital Taiping. The occupants of the other vehicles involved were uninjured. Police are currently reviewing CCTV and dashcam footage as part of the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
