German agricultural producer prices tumble 12% YoY as overall production posts modest rise in April 2026

In April 2026 the German producer‑price index for agricultural goods fell 12.3 % compared with April 2025 and 1.5 % versus March 2026, according to Destatis. Plant‑based products declined 12.1 % YoY, driven by a 54.7 % drop in table‑potato prices. Fruit prices fell 24.3 % (apples down 33.3 %) and vegetables slipped modestly, with cabbage –15.8 % and lettuce –13 %; grain was 11.7 % cheaper. Milk prices dropped 26.2 % YoY, and pork prices fell 11.6 %, contributing to a 12.4 % decline in animal‑product prices. Some items rose, notably wine (+1.7 %), eggs (+13 %), beef (+4.2 %) and poultry (+2.6 %) due to higher duck and turkey prices; tomatoes and cucumbers saw sharp year‑over‑year increases of 58.2 % and 10.7 % respectively.

Separately, German real production in the manufacturing sector rose 0.4 % month‑on‑month in April 2026, though it remains 0.5 % below the same month a year earlier. The gain was led by construction (+2.4 %), chemicals (+2.1 %) and metal products (+1.6 %). The automotive sector slipped 4.7 %, offset by a 1.0 % rise in energy‑intensive industries. Overall industrial output was unchanged MoM and down 2.1 % YoY.
