German bicycle market shows growth in first half of 2026

The German bicycle market has entered a period of recovery in the first half of 2026 following several difficult years characterized by overproduction and falling prices. According to the industry association ZIV, domestic bicycle production rose by 6 percent, while e-bike production increased by 4 percent.

Retail and workshop activity also showed signs of strengthening. Sales of bicycles rose by nearly 10 percent, and e-bike sales grew by 2 percent. While retailers continue to order cautiously, they have largely succeeded in reducing excess inventory from previous years. ZIV Managing Director Burkhard Stork stated that the industry has overcome its lowest point and expressed confidence in the positive trend.
