Deutsche Bahn shuts right‑Rhine rail corridor for upgrades, bus and ferry replacements

Deutsche Bahn will close the right‑Rhine railway line between Wiesbaden (Hesse) and Troisdorf (North Rhine‑Westphalia) from 10 July to 12 December 2026. The works – costing about €1.6 billion – will replace tracks, points, overhead lines, signalling, bridges, tunnels and stations to improve reliability and punctuality.

During the five‑month closure a comprehensive replacement service will operate: around a dozen bus lines, express routes for faster connections, and additional school‑day trips. Information on schedules is available via the DB website, DB Navigator and regional transport apps. The ferry “Nixe” will also carry passengers across the Rhine between Erpel and Remagen as an alternative link. Freight traffic is being diverted to the left‑Rhine line, and several level‑crossings near Wiesbaden will remain closed while work proceeds.

Transport ministers Oliver Krischer (NRW), Kaweh Mansoori (Hesse) and Achim Schwickert (Rhineland‑Palatinate) stress that the disruption is necessary for long‑term service improvements, and they urge passengers to check timetables before travelling.
