German cities organize community cleanup initiatives
Local communities in Germany are organizing environmental cleanup initiatives to combat littering in urban and riverside areas.
In Neuwied, a cleanup action week is scheduled from September 14 to 19, aligned with World Cleanup Day. The initiative, supported by the citizen initiative ‘Cleanup Neuwied – Deichstadt Greenup’, the Servicebetriebe Neuwied (SBN), and local waste management, invites individuals, schools, and clubs to clean parks, schoolyards, and residential areas. Following a successful 2025 event involving approximately 1,300 participants, organizers will provide tools such as gloves and grabbers, with SBN handling waste collection.
In Worms, the ‘Rheinpirsch’ event is set for September 12, 2026, as part of the broader European ‘Rhine Clean Up’ initiative. Organized by the Entsorgungs- und Baubetrieb Worms AöR (ebwo AöR), the action aims to remove trash from the Rhine riverbanks and surrounding paths. Participants can collect materials at designated stations near the Sandbank parking lot and the Rhine promenade, or coordinate for collection in industrial areas.
