Germany's 2026 Stadtradeln bike campaign logs millions of kilometres

The 2026 edition of Stadtradel​n, Germany's nationwide cycling challenge, saw extensive participation across many regions. In Cologne, more than 2.3 million kilometres were logged by 11,743 riders, a distance equivalent to over 58 trips around the Earth, and the city avoided an estimated 383 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. The police team recorded the highest kilometre total with 88,424 km, followed by the University Hospital Cologne and the city administration.

In the Oberallgäu district, roughly 1,800 participants rode 368,715 km, saving about 60 tonnes of CO₂, and the local VR‑Bank pledged 333 trees for a reforestation project. Winsen’s gymnasium team led the town’s results with 190,030 km, while Straubing’s cyclists accumulated over 90,000 km, positioning the town among the top ten German municipalities. A company from Heiden, B&W Energy, donated €1,835 to a children's palliative care centre based on kilometres ridden.

Overall, the campaign highlighted strong community engagement, significant climate‑benefit calculations, and a range of local prizes and tree‑planting initiatives linked to the kilometres covered.
