German city construction projects disrupt traffic in Dresden and Nuremberg
In Dresden, a large excavation at the Wiener Platz has been open for nearly two years. The work, which began in July 2024 on Breslauer Straße, has encountered unexpected findings that the planners had not anticipated, leaving the site visible and causing local inconvenience.
Meanwhile, in Nuremberg, extensive construction is planned for the Pegnitzgrund area. Starting May 2026, several access points—including the Westbad forecourt and the Lederersteg bridge—will be temporarily closed, and additional traffic restrictions are expected as the city prepares for the works.
Both projects illustrate the challenges German municipalities face in managing large‑scale infrastructure upgrades while minimizing disruption to residents and commuters.
