German communities hold rallies and surveys to promote democracy

In Salzgitter, approximately 270 citizens gathered for a rally to promote democracy, diversity, and human dignity while positioning themselves against racism and right-wing extremism. The event featured speakers from politics and civil society, addressing concerns regarding local election results and the upcoming mayoral runoff. Christian Striese noted that while economic and future-oriented anxieties drive some voters, they should not be viewed as a justification for extremist political offerings. He expressed support for Mayor Frank Klingebiel, who emphasized that racism and hate have no place in the city.

In the Tirschenreuth district, a separate initiative involving over 200 participants focused on democratic values through an interactive survey. Organized by the No. way radicalization prevention network, the Tirschenreuth Volunteer Agency, and the District Inclusion Network, the event used tools like a wheel of fortune to engage citizens on topics such as equality, justice, and peace. Organizers reported a positive outcome, aiming to bring democratic discourse into everyday community life.
