German communities host celebrations for senior citizens
Various communities in Germany held celebrations for senior citizens, focusing on honoring the elderly and fostering community spirit.
In Gammelshausen, approximately 130 guests attended a senior celebration. Mayor Daniel Kohl praised the community's cohesion and reliability. The event featured musical performances by Steffen Kohl and the newly formed “Männersingen” group from the Gammelshausen singing association, as well as Swabian poetry by Walter Bader and gymnastics led by Cordula Ruhland. The municipality honored the oldest attendees, Josefine Stadler (91) and Johannes Rapp (90).
In Weiden, around 600 people gathered at the Max-Reger-Halle for a senior afternoon. Mayor Benjamin Zeitler opened the event, reflecting on the historical experiences of the older generation, from the war years to reunification. Irina Kern, the newly elected chair of the Weiden Senior Advisory Board, emphasized the board's commitment to representing the concerns and wishes of seniors. The program included sketches, music from the 77-Combo, and performances by the “Chorisma” choir.
