German consumer tests show discount brands beat premium in laundry detergent and facial cleansing milk

Stiftung Warentest evaluated 20 full‑wash detergents and placed several discount own‑labels at the top, including dm’s “Denkmit”, Lidl’s “Formil” and Rossmann’s “Domol”, all scoring 1.6‑1.7. Powder detergents proved cheapest at about 16 cents per wash, while Aldi’s liquid “Tandil Ultra” secured the liquid category win.

Öko‑Test examined 29 facial cleansing milks, awarding “very good” marks to most products. The only clear loser was Garnier Hyaluron Barrier Protect Cream Cleanser, rated “unsatisfactory” for containing chlorphenesin and salicylic acid. Discount and private‑label options such as Balea (dm), Shisara (Netto) and Today (Rewe, Penny) achieved top scores and low prices, some under one euro per 200 ml.
