Discount cleaning brands outperform premium labels in consumer tests

Recent consumer tests conducted by Stiftung Warentest and other independent reviewers show that budget-friendly discount brands are frequently outperforming expensive name-brand cleaning products in both dishwasher and laundry categories.

In dishwasher tab testing, Aldi’s ‘Power Force All-in-One’ and Rossmann’s ‘Domol Ultra Power All-in-One’ emerged as top performers, costing approximately 9 cents per tab. These discount options significantly undercut premium brands like Finish and Somat, which can cost up to 27 cents per wash. In separate multi-tab testing, Lidl’s W5 Multi-Active All in 1 and dm’s Denkmit Multi-Power Revolution also received high ratings, proving that private labels offer comparable cleaning power and limescale protection at a lower price point.

Laundry detergent tests also highlight the effectiveness of discount brands. Aldi’s Tandil brand was noted for its ability to remove tough stains like coffee and mustard, performing at a level comparable to or better than established brands like Persil. The findings suggest that consumers can achieve high cleaning standards while significantly reducing annual household expenses by opting for supermarket private labels over premium market leaders.
