German court to hold retrial in 2024 disappearance case

A retrial is set to begin in Upper Franconia regarding the disappearance of a 33-year-old woman in August 2024. Although a 75-year-old man was previously convicted of manslaughter, the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) overturned the verdict from the Bamberg District Court.

The BGH ruled that the previous judgment failed to exclude other possibilities for the woman's disappearance, such as the involvement of another person or alternative explanations for her absence. No body has been recovered, and the defendant remained silent throughout the initial proceedings. The new trial is scheduled to run from October 12 through January 15.
