German cruise sector sees awards, ship returns, and recovery from maritime incident

The cruise industry is seeing significant activity in German ports, marked by industry awards, ship rotations, and recent maritime incidents. The Kreuzfahrt Guide Awards 2026 have named several top vessels, including AIDAcosma for family-friendliness, Explora I for gastronomy, and Havila Capella for sustainability.

In Warnemünde, the AIDAluna has returned to port for the first time in 17 years, taking over routes previously serviced by the AIDAdiva. The ship is scheduled to operate Norway and Baltic Sea cruises through early November 2026.

Meanwhile, the AIDAperla has returned to Hamburg following an incident in Le Havre, France. Strong winds caused the vessel to break its lines and drift from its pier, resulting in damage to the stern above the waterline. While a collision with TUI Cruises’ Mein Schiff 3 was narrowly avoided, the ship underwent repairs in coordination with maritime authorities before resuming service.
