German cruise industry activity and operations
Overview
The German cruise sector has experienced a period of high activity and operational shifts. In late August 2026, the Kiel seaport reached full capacity at its standard terminals due to the simultaneous docking of three vessels: the AIDAbella, Mein Schiff Relax, and MS Vasco da Gama.
By mid-September, the industry saw further developments including the Kreuzfahrt Guide Awards 2026, which recognized vessels such as AIDAcosma and Explora I. Operational changes were also noted in Warnemünde, where the AIDAluna returned to port for the first time in 17 years to service Norway and Baltic Sea routes.
Additionally, the AIDAperla returned to Hamburg following a maritime incident in Le Havre, France. Strong winds caused the vessel to break its lines and drift from its pier, resulting in damage to the stern. After undergoing repairs and avoiding a collision with the Mein Schiff 3, the ship has resumed service.
