German customs seize 117 kg marijuana from Belgian driver at Swiss border

In mid‑June, German customs officers at the Bietingen post near the Swiss border stopped a Belgian‑registered Sprinter that was attempting to cross into Germany. The driver presented a shipping document describing the cargo as “Dried Hemp Flowers”. A detailed inspection revealed 17 packages containing 115 vacuum‑sealed bags, totaling approximately 117 kg of marijuana.

The cannabis originated in the United States, was flown to Zurich and then moved into Switzerland before being en route to a recipient in the Czech Republic. The driver could not provide a permit for transit, which is only allowed for narrowly defined medical uses. Prosecutors in Konstanz have opened a criminal case against the driver, and the seized marijuana has been retained as evidence. This seizure follows an earlier discovery in April of 50 kg of marijuana near Blumberg, also intercepted by the same customs authority.
