German doctors mobilise against GKV savings plan

The German Association of Neurologists (BVDN) has called on physicians to join a nationwide protest on 10 June 2025 against the government’s GKV savings legislation, which would cut extrabudgetary TSVG incentives that help patients obtain quicker specialist appointments. The association warns that the budget cuts could reduce the number of available appointments and lead to the closure of practices, with a KBV estimate that up to 1,000 doctors might consider shutting down their offices.

State governments have also voiced strong objections to the federal plan, arguing that the proposed reductions threaten the stability of outpatient care. Health Minister Nina Warken defended the measures as unavoidable, warning of a potential financial collapse of the health system if the cuts are not implemented. The debate has sparked a broader discussion about extremist influences in medical practices and the need for specialised training to recognise and address radicalisation within healthcare settings.
