Germany defines severe disability rating and affirms unlimited integration assistance

In Germany, a disability rating (Grad der Behinderung, GdB) of 50 or higher is classified as severe disability, granting access to various compensations such as tax benefits, early retirement options and enhanced job protection. The rating can also be awarded on a temporary basis during a "healing probation" period after major medical treatment, typically lasting up to five years, to assess long‑term recovery.

The Federal Social Court has ruled that integration assistance for people with disabilities must be provided without a fixed term. The court clarified that the Social Code (SGB IX) does not allow automatic time limits on assistance benefits, overturning a practice of issuing time‑limited notices to thousands of recipients.
