German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul visits Kharkiv near Ukrainian front
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul visited Kharkiv, Ukraine, a major city located approximately 30 kilometers from the front lines. During his trip, Wadephul visited a university, a power plant damaged by Russian missile strikes, and a destroyed subway depot. He also attended a ceremony at one of Europe’s tallest flagpoles to mark the Day of the State Flag.
Wadephul praised the resilience of the local population, describing their will to resist Russian violence as incredible. The visit follows a meeting in Kyiv where President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for Germany’s support in the defense against Russia.
Following the visit, Wadephul called for increased international support for Ukraine. He emphasized that the conflict involves more than just Ukrainian sovereignty, stating that the ability of an aggressor to succeed is a threat to the stability of Europe and the world. He announced plans to contact his U.S. counterpart, Marco Rubio, to discuss his findings from the region.
