German Drivers Can Cut Flensburg Points Through a Mandatory Seminar

German traffic law allows drivers with up to five points in the Flensburg driver‑aptitude register to reduce one point by completing a driver‑improvement seminar (Fahreignungsseminar). The seminar, which combines group traffic‑safety sessions and individual psychological counseling, can be attended only once within a five‑year period and only if the driver’s total does not exceed five points.

The cost varies by provider, typically ranging from €200 to €400. After successful completion, participants receive a certificate that must be submitted to the licensing authority within two weeks; otherwise the point reduction is forfeited. Drivers with six or more points are ineligible, and illegal point‑trading is punishable by fines up to €30,000. Points that are not reduced expire automatically after two and a half years for minor violations or five years for more serious offenses.
