Germany's gas storage at roughly 46% of capacity in July 2026

As of late July 2026, Germany's underground gas storage facilities were reported to be 45.9% full, a level lower than the same date in previous years and below the European average of about 55%. The decline follows the cessation of Russian gas deliveries after the end of 2022, which has forced Germany to rely on alternative supplies.

The Bundesnetzagentur, Germany's Federal Network Agency, stated that despite the modest fill level the national gas supply remains stable and can cover two to three cold winter months. It emphasized that while gas storage is an important security component, it is not the sole determinant of overall energy security.
