In Isselburg, Germany, a sudden rise in water temperature caused severe oxygen depletion in the Werther See, leading to a mass fish kill on 27 June. The local volunteer fire brigade and members of the Anholter Angelsportverein responded by removing dead fish and, throughout the night, operating a portable oxygen‑injection system to re‑oxygenate the water. The city subsequently installed a permanent water‑aeration unit equipped with a submersible motor to provide continuous oxygen and circulation, aiming to protect the lake against future heat‑related stress.

A similar crisis unfolded at the Sylvansteinsee reservoir in Upper Bavaria, where prolonged drought lowered the water level and created shallow, oxygen‑poor zones. Members of the Lenggries fishing association, assisted by water‑warden Tobias Oberlechner, used an electric‑powered net and a boat‑mounted generator to rescue about 30 pike from the shallow pits, relocating them to deeper water when possible.
