German libraries launch summer reading projects for children

The city library in Zeulenroda‑Triebes joined the annual "Ich bin eine Leseratte" summer reading project, offering seven selected titles for children to borrow, evaluate and win book vouchers. The program, running from the start of summer holidays until after autumn, is financially supported by Sparkasse Gera‑Greiz and provides multiple copies of each book.

In the same district, the planned youth fire‑brigade camp in Greiz was cancelled because of unusually high temperatures, with organisers citing safety concerns and promising a future replacement date.

Meanwhile, Riesa’s library kicked off its fifteenth "Buchsommer" campaign, inviting children aged 7‑16 to read at least three books from a curated selection. Participants receive certificates after completing reading requirements, and the initiative is funded by local sponsors and a wish‑box partnership with Thalia bookshop, which supplied additional titles.
