German libraries refresh spaces and host sustainable clothing swap

The Hemau City Library in Bavaria has been renovated with new furnishings supplied by the Osecky family, adding comfortable reading chairs, leather sofas, a soft carpet and a dedicated "Heimat" corner showcasing local history. Library director Karola Künzl said, “Our library is far more than a place to borrow books. It invites reading, discovery and meeting,” noting the positive visitor feedback.

In Berlin’s Spandau district, the Bezirkszentralbibliothek Spandau is organizing a free clothing‑swap event on 31 July 2026, inviting residents to exchange up to ten well‑kept garments. The event, held in the library’s courtyard or reading café if weather requires, includes a professional seamstress on‑site to mend and alter items, promoting sustainability and neighborhood solidarity.
