German municipal utilities expand vocational training programs

Municipal utility companies in Germany are continuing to invest in vocational training to secure future skilled labor.

WEMAG Netz GmbH has welcomed a new cohort of 15 apprentices and dual students. These individuals are training in various fields, including electrical engineering for industrial technology and IT system integration. Despite a steady number of total applications, the company noted a significant decline in the number of qualified applicants. WEMAG board member Thomas Murche emphasized that the company is investing in future specialists to provide attractive career perspectives within the industry.

Similarly, Stadtwerke Amberg is expanding its team with five new apprentices starting in September 2026. These trainees will support operations within the Stadtwerke Amberg Versorgungs GmbH and the Stadtwerke Amberg Bäder und Park GmbH, covering roles such as industrial mechanics, electronics, office management, and bath facility specialists.
