Germany apprenticeship expansion August 2026
Overview
The apprenticeship drive that began in July continued robustly through August 2026. Municipal administrations in Göttingen, Rüsselsheim, Meppen, Frankenthal and Sylt welcomed new trainees, while firms such as Stadtwerke Jena, DENIOS SE, ARNDT Automobile GmbH, Ratiodata, Technotrans and Volksbank Köln‑Bonn started sizable cohorts. In the first week of August, a further wave of programmes launched. The newly merged VR Bank Fulda and VR Bank Main‑Kinzig Büdingen began a joint introductory week for 18 apprentices, dual students and practicum participants under the future VR RegionalBank brand. KRAUSE in Alsfeld‑Altenburg welcomed 11 apprentices and interns across sectors including IT and mechatronics, while Heurich GmbH & Co. KG started 20 apprentices across seven trades. The energy provider NEW hired a record 49 apprentices, including its first female electronics trainees. Local housing firms WINDOR and DWG each took four apprentices in technical and administrative roles. In the banking sector, Volksbank Oberberg welcomed 14 new apprentices for an introductory week aimed at securing qualified talent and expanding professional perspectives. CEO Andreas Neumann noted that such training “opens professional perspectives for young people and simultaneously secures qualified young talent for our bank.” Further expansion continued with DAW SE, which welcomed 25 apprentices and dual students across locations in Ober-Ramstadt, Köthen, Nerchau, and Gerstungen. The cohort focused on IT, cyber security, and international business administration. Bianca Willms, Head of Talent Acquisition & Retention at DAW, described training internal specialists as a vital investment to bring fresh perspectives and digital competencies to the organization. Despite these starts, regional employment agencies reported hundreds of vacant slots in districts such as Heinsberg (425) and Worms (151).
