German municipalities advance local heat planning and budget updates

Municipalities in Germany are advancing local energy transition strategies through new heat planning reports and resolutions.

In Wirges, the Verbandsgemeinderat approved a supplementary budget and presented a municipal heat planning report. The budget adjustment follows a financial deficit caused by delayed state allocations and increased construction costs for a primary school expansion and a transformer station. To cover the deficit, the municipality will take on approximately 3.4 million euros in external funds. The heat plan identifies focus areas for heat networks in the town center of Wirges and Dernbach, while testing areas for hydrogen in industrial zones and Mogendorf, Siershahn, and Staudt.

In Eilenburg, the city council approved a municipal heat plan aimed at making the heat supply more climate-friendly by 2045. The plan examines renewable energy sources, waste heat utilization, and energy renovation potential to provide strategic guidance for long-term planning. Additionally, Eilenburg has approved new dog tax rates effective January 1, 2027, as part of budget consolidation efforts.
