German municipalities advance municipal heat planning initiatives
German municipalities Goslar and Völklingen are advancing municipal heat planning initiatives to transition toward climate-neutral energy supplies.
In Goslar, the city administration is hosting a public information event on October 7 to present the results of its current planning process. The session, moderated by the Institut für nachhaltige Energieversorgung GmbH (INEV), will provide insights into the foundations and future steps of the city's heat strategy. A draft of the final report is currently available for public review and comment until October 23.
In Völklingen, the city council has unanimously approved the launch of a study to determine future heat sources. The project, involving the Institut für angewandtes Stoffmanagement (Ifas), aims to evaluate the feasibility of district heating, heat pumps, and the utilization of industrial waste heat. The goal is to establish a long-term roadmap for transitioning buildings and businesses to renewable energy sources, with a target completion date by mid-2028.
