German municipalities launch 2026 Stadtradeln bike‑kilometer climate drives

The town of Rain announced that from 5 July to 25 July 2026 it will host a Stadtradeln campaign, inviting residents, employees, club members and students to record bicycle kilometres instead of using cars. Participants can register on the Stadtradeln website or app, choose Rain as their municipality and log rides taken for work, school, shopping or leisure. The initiative aims to reduce CO₂ emissions, promote cycling and improve air quality. A kickoff ride is planned for 5 July at the castle in Rain, followed by a group ride around the town and a casual gathering at the TSV Rain sports restaurant.

In the neighbouring Landkreis Schweinfurt, the Stadtradeln 2026 action was officially opened with a ride led by deputy district administrator Stefan Rottmann and mayor Johannes Grebner. Cyclists travelled from the school centre in Üchtelhausen, via the "Baumelbank" near Hesselbach, to Zell, involving participants from all 29 municipalities. The district highlighted its ongoing bike‑infrastructure upgrades, including a new bike‑and‑business path and a recent gap‑closure project, and reiterated its goal of attaining the "Fahrradfreundlicher Landkreis" certification while encouraging residents to log kilometres for climate protection.
