German music industry revenue up 5% in first half of 2026

The Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI) reported that total industry earnings in Germany reached €670 million in the first half of 2026, a 5.4 % increase over the same period a year earlier. Streaming accounted for 84.4 % of the revenue, while the split between physical (CDs and vinyl) and digital formats stood at 13.6 % to 86.4 %. Vinyl sales grew 9.8 % and now represent 47.8 % of the physical market, with CDs also registering modest gains.

Analyst firm Omdia projected worldwide recorded‑music revenue at $48.3 billion for 2026, expecting the market to exceed $50 billion in 2027 and reach $56.8 billion by 2030. Subscription‑streaming revenue is forecast to rise to $30.5 billion this year and surpass $37 billion by 2030, while physical‑media sales are expected to climb to $8.3 billion by the end of the decade.
