German officials warn of risks to renewable energy expansion

German political figures are expressing concerns regarding the federal government's plans for the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) amendment. Thekla Walker, the Environment Minister of Baden-Württemberg, warned that the current proposal could hinder the expansion of renewable energy in southern Germany, potentially preventing many planned facilities from being constructed.

Additionally, SPD energy policy spokesperson Nina Scheer criticized recent economic planning, suggesting that new hurdles for grid connections and small solar installations could lead to a decrease in renewable energy investments. Scheer also highlighted the SPD's push to establish heat protection as a collective task within the German Basic Law, a move that requires cooperation with the Union to achieve the necessary two-thirds majority.
