European outdoor pools conclude 2026 summer season

Various outdoor swimming facilities across Germany and Switzerland are concluding their 2026 summer seasons, reporting significant visitor numbers and hosting specialized end-of-season events.

In Germany, several municipalities are organizing dog swimming events to mark the end of the season. Locations such as Augsburg, Pinneberg, and Bad Windsheim are hosting these activities, with proceeds often benefiting local animal shelters. Meanwhile, facilities like RothenburgBad and the Rhede outdoor pool reported high attendance, with Rothenburg seeing 52,300 visitors and Rhede seeing a 40 percent increase to 58,420 guests compared to the previous year.

In Switzerland, the Basel garden baths reported a successful season with approximately 550,000 entries, a 26 percent increase from the prior year. The facilities implemented enhanced security and staffing measures to manage high demand during warm weather.

Other regional updates include the upcoming closure of the Altstadtbad Bayreuth and discussions in Bremen-Nord regarding the long-term planning of indoor swimming facilities to ensure continued access for school children and seniors.
