German pharmacists report secure supply of flu remedies and antibiotics
The Federal Union of German Associations of Pharmacists (ABDA) has issued an assurance regarding the supply of seasonal medications. ABDA President Thomas Preis stated that the supply of flu remedies, fever syrups, and antibiotics is secured, and he does not foresee shortages for antibiotics this year.
However, structural supply shortages persist for more than 500 other medications. Pharmacists currently spend approximately 20 working hours per week managing these issues by finding alternatives, consulting with doctors, and advising patients. Preis emphasized the need to reduce bureaucratic burdens related to health insurance companies to allow pharmacists more time for patient care.
As the winter season approaches, pharmacists recommend that households, particularly families with children, check their home medicine cabinets to ensure essential medications are available and within their expiration dates.
