German police conduct e-scooter safety inspections

Police departments in Hesse, Germany, conducted a series of traffic safety inspections focused on protecting vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and e-scooter riders. The operations took place across several regions, including the districts of Fulda, Hersfeld-Rotenburg, and Vogelsberg, as well as the cities of Hanau and Offenbach.

In Bad Hersfeld, officers engaged in prevention work by educating approximately 500 students at Gesamtschule Obersberg regarding traffic rules and the specific risks associated with e-scooters.

During inspections in Hanau and Offenbach, authorities checked 55 e-scooters, seven bicycles, and 24 cars. Despite poor weather conditions, officers issued seven deficiency reports. Two individuals faced criminal proceedings for operating tuned e-scooters. Police emphasized the importance of functional lighting, especially in low visibility, and advised riders to adjust their speed and braking for wet road conditions.
