Police conduct widespread traffic enforcement in Germany and Switzerland
Police authorities across Germany and Switzerland have conducted various traffic enforcement operations targeting speeding, driving under the influence, and documentation fraud.
In Germany, specialized checks in Mainz focused on truck parking lots, where two drivers were found with blood alcohol levels exceeding 1.9 promille. Other regional operations in Wörth, Hanau, and Fritzlar targeted motorcycle riders, e-scooter users, and drivers suspected of drug use. Notable violations included a driver attempting to use a forged license, an individual offering a bribe to avoid a citation, and several motorists caught speeding significantly above limits.
In Switzerland, the Canton Police of Valais reported a major speeding incident on the A9 motorway, where a 26-year-old driver was recorded traveling at 149 km/h in an 80 km/h construction zone, resulting in the immediate seizure of their driver's license.
Additionally, a European-wide initiative, ‘Focus on the Road’, is currently underway to increase scrutiny of distracted driving, specifically targeting the use of mobile devices and other electronic equipment while operating vehicles.
