Germany arrests multiple suspects in terrorism and war crimes investigations

German authorities have conducted several high-profile arrests related to terrorism and war crimes. In North Rhine-Westphalia, police executed raids in Hagen and Unna, taking three men into custody. The suspects—a 33-year-old German national and two Syrian men aged 20 and 24—are suspected of planning an Islamist attack and maintaining ideological ties to the Islamic State (IS). Authorities noted the group had been under surveillance since the beginning of the year. While the German national remains in custody, the two Syrian suspects were released following a court decision in Hagen.

In a separate action, the Federal Prosecutor's Office arrested two individuals in Eisenach. One man, born in Kuwait, is accused of being a former member of the Islamic State who served as an armed military policeman in Iraq until early 2017. Additionally, a Syrian national, Ibrahim A., is in custody on suspicion of committing war crimes, specifically the execution of three prisoners in Syria in 2015.
