German politicians condemn pharma firms' investment pullback
The German government’s planned health‑care reform, centered on the GKV contribution‑stabilisation law, has prompted pharmaceutical giants Eli Lilly and Boehringer Ingelheim to announce a drastic reduction of their investments in the country.
The firms argue the new “dynamic manufacturer discount” – a price cut tied to statutory health‑insurance revenues and drug‑spending – threatens profitability, while politicians argue that the pull‑back jeopardises research, production and the competitiveness of Germany’s health‑care sector.
