Autumn seasonal foods and pumpkin harvests highlight regional gastronomy

As autumn arrives, seasonal foods such as pumpkins, mandarins, and chestnuts are returning to prominence in gastronomy and nutrition. Pumpkin enthusiasts in the southwest region of Germany can find a wide variety of edible and decorative varieties at local farms and markets, including Bine’s Kürbisgarten, Kürbishof Andres, and Obstbau Wenz.

Nutritionally, seasonal fruits like mandarins offer Vitamin C and support the immune system, while local fruits like quinces provide B-vitamins and potassium. Pumpkins, which are botanically classified as berries, are highly nutritious, low in calories, and rich in carotenoids and potassium.

Culinary traditions are also highlighted through seasonal recipes, such as velvety chestnut soup with crispy bacon, emphasizing the use of regional and traditional ingredients during the cooler months.
