German regional film festivals present short films and world premieres

The 15th Taunus‑Filmfest Taunale took place in the Christuskirche in Oberursel, Hesse, featuring screenings such as the documentary "Pizza Under Fire" about volunteers delivering pizza to the front lines in eastern Ukraine and the stop‑motion short "Identitti" about a Russian couple fleeing war. Festival director Eva Debrodt noted the event’s growth and its international guests, while the venue’s modest seating highlighted its community focus.

Meanwhile, the 5th Eichsfelder Filmfestival ran from 7‑9 August in Heiligenstadt, presenting 41 short films, documentaries and animations from 18 countries. Organisers Matthias Schneemann and Tobias John highlighted a world premiere of "Mit Dänen ist nicht gut Kirschen essen", a horror‑themed "Freakshow", a documentary block on contemporary Germany, a children’s program and a showcase of Iranian short films. Awards were given for best short, documentary and special jury prizes.
