German renewable energy groups warn of grid capacity and tariff risks

German renewable energy associations are raising concerns regarding grid capacity regulations and network tariff reforms.

The Bundesverband Erneuerbare Energie (BEE) has criticized an analysis commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). BEE President Ursula Heinen-Esser stated that the study, conducted by E-Bridge, underestimates the risks to renewable energy expansion by relying on limited data from 2024. BEE claims that up to 39 percent of new installations could be affected by capacity limitations, creating significant economic risks for investors.

Simultaneously, the Bundesverband Neue Energiewirtschaft (bne) has commented on the Federal Network Agency's (BNetzA) proposed reforms to network tariff systems. While bne welcomes the move toward more dynamic and market-oriented tariffs to encourage flexibility, it warns that certain aspects require adjustment. Specifically, the association noted concerns regarding low-voltage pricing, the burden on weather-dependent generation, and the lack of a holistic view of grid congestion management instruments, which could inadvertently hinder market flexibility and investment.
