German schools award students in art and handwriting contests
At the Adam‑von‑Trott‑Schule in Sontra, 60 pupils took part in a nature‑themed painting competition organized by art teacher Nicole Albrecht. First prize was awarded to Jannis Strube (grade 9bG), whose artwork will appear on the cover of the 2026/27 school planner. Hanen Kurdada and Helena Victoria Westphal earned second and third places. Winners received cafeteria vouchers and a copy of the planner.
At the Ulrich‑von‑Hutten‑Gymnasium in Schlüchtern, ten pupils were selected among the 100 best letters in the statewide “Tag der Handschrift” competition, which received over 9,000 submissions on the theme “Future”. The awards ceremony took place on 24 April at the Museum Wiesbaden. Hessian Minister for Culture, Education and Opportunities Armin Schwarz said, “Handwriting practically influences our students’ future… It trains motor skills, language comprehension and concentration.” The winning letters will be published in a commemorative book.
