German states adopt electronic ankle bracelets to protect domestic violence victims

Saxony‑Anhalt Justice Minister Franziska Weidinger announced plans to expand the use of electronic ankle bracelets for high‑risk domestic‑violence cases. The device will alert victims when an offender breaches a protected zone, allowing police and courts to intervene quickly.

Rhineland‑Palatinate’s Justice Minister Dr. Martin signed off on the same state‑level treaty, which integrates the monitoring system with the joint electronic surveillance centre based in Hessen. The treaty, pending ratification by each state parliament, aims for full implementation by mid‑2027. Both states view the measure as a key tool for preventing further abuse and strengthening protection orders.
