Upper Elbe freight shipping remains halted due to low water

Freight shipping on the Upper Elbe remains at a standstill due to critically low water levels in Saxony. Despite recent rainfall, the water level at the Dresden gauge is approximately 60 centimeters, well below the one-meter threshold required for reliable shipping.

Sächsische Binnenhäfen Oberelbe (SBO) reports that the resumption of cargo traffic is uncertain and depends on sustained rainfall, particularly in the Czech Republic. The current drought has caused significant logistical issues since late April, leaving heavy equipment, such as large machine parts, generators, and turbines, stranded in Dresden. The disruption has also affected imports arriving from seaports.
