Neuhausen ob Eck and Haan advance fiber-optic rollouts in Germany

In the Baden‑Württemberg town of Neuhausen ob Eck, the municipal council and network operator NetCom BW held an information meeting attended by 65 residents. Mayor Marina Jung reported that the fiber‑optic network, approved in 2021, received funding and a groundbreaking ceremony on 14 April 2024. After an initial exclusion of about one hundred households, the council added them to a gap‑closure programme. The engineering firm is expected to hand over documentation to NetCom BW by the end of July, with households to be informed of connection options in the autumn. NetCom BW projects that by the end of 2027 all homes in Neuhausen will have fiber access.

In the North‑Rhine‑Westphalian town of Haan, resident Jens Mühlmeister voiced frustration over the slow progress of the local fiber rollout. A main line and branch were installed on 18 February, but no house‑level connection has followed. The expansion is being led by the joint‑venture company Unsere Grüne Glasfaser (UGG), created by Allianz and Telefónica to fill “white‑spots” not covered by the publicly funded Pyur project, which has already laid roughly 300 km of cable serving 3,800 homes and businesses. The pending connections remain a source of local discontent.
