Geeste and Cottbus boost 2026 German ‘Stadtradeln’ cycling drive

The municipality of Geeste in Lower Saxony is taking part in the 2026 Stadtradeln climate‑bike campaign from 6 to 26 June. The town offers two guided 30‑kilometre rides – a paid tour on 10 June led by Mayor Helmut Höke and a free evening ride on 19 June – and an information stand at the Emsland Moormuseum on 21 June. Participants who log at least 30 km can enter a prize draw.

In Cottbus, Saxony‑Anhalt, the 2026 campaign set a new record. From 1 to 21 May, 3 873 cyclists in 145 teams rode a total of 659 745 km, equivalent to about 16.5 trips around the Earth’s equator and avoiding roughly 108 tonnes of CO₂. The city will honour the top teams and individuals at the Cottbus city festival on 21 June.

Both towns use the nationwide Stadtradeln initiative to encourage everyday cycling, reduce emissions and promote healthier, community‑focused mobility.
